Home Links
Homework will be handled through the use of “home links” in our classroom. Students should be reading 20+ minutes every day outside of school. Help them at home by encouraging them to read! Reading can look a variety of ways: reading aloud, reading to them, reading to themselves, and describing stories through pictures and retelling. Additional home links sent home occasionally and will be used as review or extra practice. They will not be used as a grade nor does it need to be returned to school. Use these extra practices to discover what and how the students are learning to encourage discussion and review.
School and Class Events
Throughout the school year, I will send home information about school and classroom events. These events may include classroom parties and field trips. In the event that we need parent volunteers or additional assistance, I will make sure that our families are aware and have all of the necessary information.
Birthdays
We will celebrate birthdays in a special way in our classroom. Birthdays will be celebrated by bringing in a “Birthday Book” or photo album. When it is a student’s birthday, they may bring in a book made at home that highlights their life with pictures leading up to their current age. They may bring in healthy treats for their birthday. We will sing and celebrate that child’s birthday during the week of their birthday. Summer birthdays will happen before the school year ends. In the event a student’s birthday is during a break or long weekend, we will celebrate either after or before the break. Birthdays are a time of celebration, but invitations will not be distributed unless there is one for all students in the class.
Conferences
When conferences approach, you will receive further information about scheduling. Guardians are free to contact the teacher via school email with questions or cell in case of emergencies throughout the school year. Guardians are encouraged to come to conferences with questions as well as their goals for their child.
Classroom Blogs / Emails
I will have a private classroom blog through Class Dojo that will be updated as periodically as possible. Monthly newsletters, photos/videos of learning, and Home Links will be posted, emailed, and/or sent home in their take home folders. Emails and the class blog (Dojo) will be full of documented information about what we did that month and the plans for the next month. Additionally, photos of classroom activities will be posted periodically throughout the year.
Wishing Tree
Throughout the school year I will update a “Wishing Tree” for our classroom. This will consist of needed classroom items that families are welcome to provide for classroom use
